(UPDATE: Universal Orlando is opening on the 6th of June! So a lot sooner that we thought, now you are ready to take your pics.)
I know that right now Universal Orlando Resort is closed, but I can't be the only one dreaming of traveling? Universal's City Walk opened partially last week so maybe the reopening of the parks is not so far off, in honor of that glimmer of hope I bring you this guide to the best instagrammable photo spots in Universal Orlando Resort.
Before we begin some important things to note about how I take my pictures:
- I try to get to the parks early to get on the rides but also to take some photos with less people
- If there's a line to take a picture at a certain spots (a few of these spots are very popular) I wait in line until it is my turn and have the composition of the shot ready to go for my time.
- If there's a lot of people around try to take a closer up shot, stand in front so they're hidden by your figure, wait until the walk past your shot and be patient.
Universal Studios Florida
Hollywood
If you head over to the Hollywood area you will have lots of places to take pictures and it tends to be one of the emptiest parts of the park since there are no rides. The Mystery Machine is perfect for pictures!
Mel's Drive-In is really popular for pictures so you might have to wait in line to get your shot, but the cars and retro architecture make it worth it!
New York
The New York area has many spots for pictures, the Palace Arcade will be perfect to take a full outfit shot. The little alleyway in front of it is alway pretty empty so you'll be able to calmly take your pictures.
Springfield: Home of the Simpsons
One of the famous pictures to take at Universal is right in front of The Simpsons Ride with the gigantic Krusty head. This one is a bit hard to get with no people in it, so head there early in the day or during lunch time to hopefully get the least amount of people in your shot.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley
The big Weasley twin's head in Diagon Alley is one of the highlights of this area and Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes has some really nice display windows where you can take some very Harry Potter shots.
The Hogwarts Express shot is one of the hardest to achieve, I don't think I have got down yet (this is the original inspiration). You either have to be on the first train ride of the day, where you might be able to take a little longer setting your shot, or quickly take lots of pictures as you walk in to the train and hope one works. If you have any tips for this one please let me know!
Universal's Islands of Adventure
Port of Entry
The little tuktuk right at the entrance of Islands is super cute and looks great in photos. The buildings at Port of Entry are a beautiful background too!
Seuss Landing
The Seuss Landing area is great if you want very colorful pictures. This is the exit to the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride! which means not a lot of people are walking here usually so it's perfect to take a pic.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade
So now for the iconic Hogwarts castle photo, head into the Hogsmeade from the Jurassic Park area and you will get the bridge pic. It's always full so just pick a spot you want and wait until it opens up. If you have your Harry Potter outfit on it will be perfect!
The Honeydukes images are also pretty popular and you can get a lot of pictures related to the sweet shop. The store windows at the main street have some very cool and pretty displays, so grab a butterbeer and pose. The back view of Honeydukes is a less known and way less crowded place to take a pic, to get here just walk into the little alleyway next to the Three Broomsticks and you'll find this hidden gem.
And the inside of Honeydukes is also incredibly beautiful, the combination of the checkered floors with the green and pink decoration works perfectly in pictures! It might be a hard photo to take with how many people might be inside the store, but pick your spot and wait until there's no people in the shot.
Universal's Volcano Bay
The volcano is the perfect background for some great shots, this one is taken from one of the cabanas right next to it which have the perfect view.

This spot in front of Waturi Beach is perfect to get that very hawaiian shot with the water, volcano and sky. This picture is from my friend Aga who was part of that trip!
So those are all my photo spots and tips for the three Universal Orlando Resort parks. Hopefully once it is open again we can all get to experience all the fun of being at Universal! Let me know your favorite places to take pictures at the parks.
